What we are taught to fear

Spider in the corner

Sliding

Scary

And nightmarish

Taught to fear

The harmless deeds

And to ignore

The cruelest ones

The arrows

The crawlings

The kickings

The cauterized wounds
Censored
Banished
In a lie

No warning

To see into

The darkness

Of the soul

Revealed

Exposed

And outrageous

Invisible

Shadows on the wall

Disturbing

The quiet weaving

The precious work

The patiently built up

'The poetry of Danielle Baraka finds its roots in the simple gestures of listening both to the external and the internal world. It is marked by a strong visionary imagination that transports itself on paths crossed by ancient myths and legends that her verses clearly catch a glimpse of.
